Abstract:
Since its establishment in 2022, Enseñanza y Comunicación de las Geociencias (RECG) has operated as a Diamond Open Access journal (no fees for authors or readers) with a biannual publication schedule, dedicated to strengthening geoscience teaching and learning across Spanish-speaking educational contexts. Published by the Instituto de Geociencias at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), RECG is endorsed by the Commission on Geoscience Education of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS-COGE) and the Latin American Chapter of the International Geoscience Education Organization (LAIGEO), reflecting its commitment to internationally recognized standards in geoscience education.
As part of its editorial consolidation, RECG has obtained an ISSN and DOI, implemented the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, and expanded its multilingual accessibility in Spanish, English, and soon Portuguese. The journal is currently indexed in Dialnet, Latindex, and the UNAM Journal Catalogue, reinforcing transparency, accessibility, and best practices in scholarly publishing. To date, RECG has published seven biannual issues comprising 77 peer-reviewed articles aimed at educators and learners across a wide range of educational levels, from early childhood education to graduate studies.
In alignment with open science principles, RECG functions not only as a publication venue but also as a collaborative educational platform that fosters academic networks, pedagogical innovation, and the exchange of teaching practices in geoscience education. By sharing didactic experiences, geocommunication strategies, and research-informed educational approaches developed in México and broader Latin American contexts, RECG contributes to strengthening cross-border dialogue and partnerships with all countries. This contribution highlights the journal’s role as a pathway for collaborative training, mutual learning, and sustained cooperation among faculty, students, and institutions engaged in advancing geoscience education across the globe.
