Abstract:
Wide application of the technology of multi-stage hydraulically-fractured horizontal wells in the Permian Basin finally converted USA to a net exporter of crude oil and the largest producing country in the world. However, production cost needs to be greatly improved to make Permian Basin crude oil competent in the global market. This project focuses on quantifying functional factors on the performance of multi-stage hydraulically-fractured horizontal wells. We have screened and collected design and production data of 50 horizontal wells in the Permian Basin. Ongoing efforts are to develop correlations between production performance and well parameters. The result will show influence of different factors, including well length in the horizontal section, number of fractured stages, total proppants (sands) injected, total water injected, quantity of sands injected per stage, and water injected per stage. The ultimate goal is to find out which factors are the least influencing so as to be reduced to optimize the performance in the future.
