Abstract:
This study involves analyzing the deformation modulus of the headrace tunnel of Mewa Khola Hydroelectric Project. The project has headrace tunnel of 5m wide by 5 m high having cross-sectional area 22.32 m2.The Headrace tunnel is inverted D-shaped. The total length of the headrace tunnel is 4801 m. The Project area lies in the Lesser Himalayan meta‐sedimentary rocks. The main rock types found in the project area are phyllite, schist (somewhere garnetiferous), and gneisses. The rock mass classifications, Q and RMR-system were used to classify rock mass during the excavation of the headrace tunnel. This paper reviews, compares, performance of existing empirical equations for calculating deformation modulus derived from various rock mass classification systems in the Mewa Khola Hydroelectric Project. To develop relationships between Em with RMR and Q, a simple regression analysis was carried out using the geometric average Em.
