Abstract:
StraboField, part of the StraboSpot digital ecosystem, is a widely used mobile application for geologic field data collection, valued for its intuitive interface and organizational tools. However, the raw output files exported from the StraboWeb interface often present challenges in navigating and extracting specific structural data. For example, when spots contain multiple types of planar data (e.g., foliations, fold axial surfaces, shear bands), it is cumbersome to separate these different types of measurements. This project addresses that challenge by developing a Python package called “StraboPy” that streamlines the processing of StraboSpot output files. StraboPy utilizes Pandas DataFrames to parse and organize data from the default Excel export format, automatically extract and categorize planar and linear measurements by type, and plot them using the mplstereonet library. The tool outputs clean, well-organized data files and stereonet plots, enabling users to access and visualize field data efficiently with minimal code. This package enhances the usability of StraboSpot data outside the app and web environment and provides a customizable foundation for further geologic data analysis and visualization.
