Abstract:
Groundwater is a dominant long-term water resource for agricultural irrigation and industrial production in Central Trinity Aquifer of Texas. Rapid population growth and economic expansion exerts significant pressure on groundwater resource. This study examines the geochemical distinctions between shallow and deep groundwater zones as a function of water table depth, with implications for groundwater–surface water connectivity across spatial and temporal scales. Shallow groundwater, positioned within the zone of active recharge, is more vulnerable to anthropogenic inputs and short-term hydroclimatic variability, whereas deeper zones are increasingly impacted by prolonged water–rock interactions and reduced hydraulic connectivity to surface sources. Increasing groundwater depth is associated with systematic variations in major ion chemistry, indicative of stratified flow paths and residence time differences. These findings advance understanding of depth-dependent hydrogeochemical processes and their role in modulating groundwater–surface water interactions, particularly in rapidly urbanizing regions. To establish the hydrogeochemical groundwater characteristics, groundwater data from shallow and deep wells in the study area will be analyzed using the Stiff, Gibbs, Gaillardet and Bivariate plot and these results will help analyze the formation mechanism of the chemical composition and provide data for the evolution of shallow and deep zones of aquifers
