Abstract:
Many of today’s conditions associated with the current mental health crisis can be traced to an evolutionary mismatch between today’s world and how our central nervous system and cognition evolved to function. From depression, anxiety to unresolved trauma, psychological distress often highlights humanity's inability to adapt to the environment. Dr Barnum, who specializes in the resolution of trauma at the University of Oklahoma’s Clinical Mental Health program, explains why issues such as global warming, species extinction, and our interaction with the environment needs to come from a broader psychological perspective for a healthier interaction. This presentation aims to support students, researchers, and geoscience professionals to develop resilience for the complex world we live in.
