The Attic-Cycladic Crystalline Complex (ACCC) is a geologic region spanning mainland Greece and the Aegean Sea characterized by well-preserved blueschist- and eclogite-facies rocks that underwent two notable exhumations: syn-orogenic extension from the rollback of the Hellenic subduction zone in the mid-to-late Eocene (40-35 Ma) and post-orogenic extension in the Oligo-Miocene (23-10 Ma). The tectonostratigraphic and structural histories of the ACCC are debated by virtue of the timing of metamorphism in the exhumed metamorphic core complexes and the mechanisms of exhumation. The Cycladic Blueschist Unit (CBU) refers to a sequence of rocks within the ACCC that were subducted and exhumed in a high-pressure, low temperature (HP/LT) environment, whereas the Basal Unit was subducted after and exhumed before the CBU at lower pressure and temperature conditions. Mount Penteli represents a portion of the Northeast Attica Unit (NEAU), which has been characterized as belonging to both the CBU and the Basal Unit. We aim to describe the geologic setting of the NEAU at Penteli with respect to the CBU and Basal Unit. Detrital zircon analysis of Penteli metaschist samples yielded U-Pb maximum depositional ages (MDAs) and provenance. Compared with known CBU samples from the Styra Unit on Evia Island, these data provide evidence that the NEAU constitutes part of the CBU. Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) plots of the Penteli samples (MDA range = [98.2, 310.8] Ma) resemble those from the Styra Unit (MDA range = [155.5, 422.4] Ma). We infer that both sample groups were sourced from similar provenances and share a similar tectonic history; future work will increase the amount of geochronologic data in Attica for verification. This study can aid in advancing knowledge of the tectonic evolution of the ACCC alongside broader HP/LT subduction and exhumation dynamics.
