ColoradoStratigraphy.org (CS) has been providing indispensable information and data pertinent to Colorado’s varied and fascinating stratigraphic record. Colorado Geological Survey (CGS) joined CS in preparing graphics and making these resources available to the public and geoscience researchers. Our most recent products include stratigraphic panels that illustrate relations between formations along border-to-border transects. The intent is to show variations and relations to major tectonic features that influenced depositional environments. Panels illustrate changes in formation thicknesses using a datum of base of the Mesozoic. Not only do the panels provide insight into relations of stratigraphic patterns to major tectonic features, but they also serve as a reference resource for users. Data used in preparation include measured sections; deep well logs and correlations; publicly available well tops data; and mapped outcrop patterns. Locations of individual reference sources are shown as are type locations of units along the transects. Points of Geologic Interest (POGIs) are included to provide guidance for users to find good exposures of stratigraphic intervals in easy to access locations. Lastly, panels are prepared in a dynamic digital format where online users can “click” on data sources to be directed to accompanying digital data.
