The Geologic Oracle Deck embraces UNuniformitarianism: the past is the key to the present. Similar to tarot cards, oracle decks offer opportunities for introspection and self-reflection. Oracle decks often provide uplifting guidance—something the weathered geologist may need in this day and age. Each Geologic Oracle Deck “reading” pairs a geologic process with a familiar life experience, and makes geologic concepts relatable and accessible to audiences unfamiliar with the discipline.
Through an oracle reading with this original deck, the audience can explore a geologic system in a fun, creative way. Each card contains an educational explanation of the geologic occurrence and then relates it to personal experiences. For example, the Normal Fault card light-heartedly indicates tension in one’s life. This builds a memorable connection between the audience and their card, transforming what might otherwise be a structural geology term into relatable, understandable themes. With a little creativity, disciplinary vocabulary can become fun and meaningful, potentially engaging students who have not identified with traditional classroom learning.
The Geologic Oracle is not just for the geo-curious! This deck spans geologic disciplines and has something for every level of geologist seeking their inner equilibrium.
