Topical Sessions
Topical sessions consist of volunteer abstracts submitted to a specific session. At GSA section meetings, topical sessions are convened without the inclusion of designated invited speakers. Session chairs may present in their own sessions.
Symposia
Symposia are prestigious events that highlight important scientific topics and/or issues of relevance to the geoscience community. Symposia should not be viewed as glorified topical sessions. They are expected to be sufficiently different so that they will attract a broad audience and generate excitement in the community. Please note that symposia proposals submitted in honor of an individual will typically not be considered.
Field Trips
These excursions are designed to be both educational and fun, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all participants. Field experiences can be half a day to three days long and are often accompanied by a published field guide.
Short Courses
Short Courses explore a wide range of topics in geology and related fields, offering opportunities to showcase new science or technology. These courses aim to develop professional, teaching, and research skills at all levels, led by experienced professionals who share their expertise with participants.
Endorsements
Endorsements elevate visibility for your session, field trip, and/or short course and help tap into avenues for promotion. You can request endorsements from GSA Divisions and Associated Societies during your submission.
Ethics Disclosure
All individuals submitting a proposal are expected to embody the ethical standards set forth in GSA's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. You will be required to be able to answer "NO" to both of the following questions in order for your proposal to be reviewed:
- Has any court, regulatory agency, employer, or other public or private entity issued a restriction, sanction, ban, or any other form of discipline against you based on a finding that you engaged in professional misconduct of the type covered in GSA's Code of Ethics?
