Abstract:
The Colombian Geological Survey (SGC) Museum is an active learning environment that facilitates interaction between the SGC and diverse audiences, contributing to an empirical understanding of effective geoscience education. Our team is dedicated to designing effective and participatory learning environments for a wide range of audiences.
For at least two years, we have systematically integrated principles and methodologies of geoscience education research to measure learning gains and improve our educational strategies. By adopting a research-informed approach, we can move beyond anecdotal evidence, ensuring that our programs are demonstrably effective in enhancing public understanding and engagement with Earth sciences.
Our presentation will focus on two components of our work: engaging diverse audiences through targeted methodologies and working with geoheritage communities. We aim to share our insight on integrating research into museum activities, discussing both the challenges and opportunities we faced, to inform and assist other institutions seeking to enhance their educational impact through evidence-based practice.
